About EPM

@@

"Electromagnetic Processing of Materials", so called EPM may sound somewhat
unfamiliar to some, therefore, let us start to explain this term.

EPM, which has been recognized as a cutting edge technology and world widely known in a metal academic society, is an engineering field utilizing functions based on Lorentz force such as shape controlling, mixing, flow controlling, levitating, splashing and heating etc. and was born in this laboratory.

Now another new field utilizing a magnetic force is coming out where a strong magnetic field, which is generated by a super-conducting magnet, is applied mainly for the crystal alignment in organic and inorganic substances, and the suppression ofmolten metal motion.

This field as a branch in EPM was named "Materials Scienceand Engineering Relating with Strong Magnetic Field ".

In orderto establish the academic back ground of EPM various research works are being conducted in this laboratory.

The First Symposium on Electromagnetic Processing of Materials was
held 1994, in Nagoya University as EPM'94 in abbreviation. The second was held 1997, in Paris as EPM'97 and the third was opened 2000 as EPM2000 at Nagoya Noh Theater in Nagoya city.
The fourth was held 2003, in Lyon, France and the fifth will be held 2006 at Sendai in Japan.
